Pamella Roland Spring 2010 Collection
By Carey Faust

Pamella Roland’s Spring 2010 Collection, which she debuted to a welcoming and enthusiastic audience on September 15 of New York Fashion Week, was a Spring garden come to life!  It was therefore no surprise that the designer drew inspiration from the artwork of American artist Georgia O’Keefe, whose bright and colorful florals, airy, white landscapes, and New York City night scenes were evoked in texture, color, style, and presence.

Nicky Hilton, Lisa Rinna, Bethenny Frankel, and America’s Next Model’s Nigel Barker and Miss J Alexander (runway diva coach extraordinaire) were among Roland’s celebrity following, oohing and ahhing in front row seats as her designs passed on the runway.  The line consisted of multifunctional garments for the well-rounded woman.  Her two-piece pant and skirt suits were classic and conservative in cut but stylish and chic in their metallic tones, making them appropriate for the office or for a date after work.

Other two-piece combos were shiny silk in neon shades – hot pink and electric orange, to name a few – and seemed to belong at a garden party or charity event.  Some of her dresses were sleek, sexy, and form-fitted, while others were flowy and ethereal with embellished collars, and many were adorned with silk flowers accents.  Each and every design was perfect for a special night out on the town: to the theatre, an art gallery opening, or a romantic dinner.

By creating masculine structured suits out of feminine fabrics, colors, and designs, Roland pushed the envelope by blurring gender roles.  Her designs are equally fun, lighthearted, and flowery as they are strong, empowered, and bold.  In a collection that does it all, Roland even had room for a bathing suit and sheer, chiffon cover-up!  Like the women her collection appeals to, this designer does it all: successful and ambitious career woman AND devoted mom, which she made known by bringing her kids on stage with her after the show to take a bow.
