Sunscreen Savvy:  Get a Healthy Glow this Summer
By Lexi Vance

Slathering on sunscreen helps prevent premature aging because UV rays and sun damage cause 90% of wrinkles.  Sunscreen will keep your skin safe and give you a healthy glow without looking like a lobster or a piece of tanned leather. Here are Couture’s top picks for the best sunscreens to keep in your beach bag this summer.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 55 was voted Consumer Search.com’s best overall sunscreen. It blocks both UVA and UVB rays, unlike most sunscreens. It has a lightweight formula that doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue. It is a water resistant sunscreen that is perfect for the beach or for the pool. However, it is not ideal for facial use, which is an area we definitely want wrinkle free and sans sun damage.

Kiss My Face Factor Sun Screen for Face and Neck, SPF 30 helps keep sun damage and wrinkles at bay. The formula is packed with antioxidants, and antioxidants combined with SPF are the best way to prevent sun damage. Several reviewers love this Kiss My Face product because it leaves their faces feeling moisturized, not greasy or oily, and fully protects the face from sun damage. The only downfall is that this is not a full body sunscreen and that the 2 oz tubes are a bit pricey.

NO AD Ultra Sunblock Lotion SPF 30 is a budget conscious sunscreen option at $8 for 16 ozs. Reviewers say it is comparable or better to pricier brands like Neutrogena or Coppertone.  You’ve probably never heard of the brand because NO AD (no advertising) relies on word of mouth advertising from its faithful consumers. It has a non-greasy formula that absorbs into skin a few minutes after applying, and has light fragrance that is not cloying and beachy like most sunscreens.  Mothers and stylish gals alike say NO AD is their go to buy for sunscreen.

Sunscreen use should not be restricted to the beach or the pool. Always use sunscreen when you are doing summer activities, like outdoor sports, gardening, tanning, barbeques. Even if you have no outdoor activities planned for the day, it is still good practice to apply a moisturizer with an SPF factor just in case you find yourself at an impromptu barbeque or pick up game of ultimate Frisbee.
